Here are pics of my new 70 series. Simple, elegant. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

Very nice, indeed. It has everything you need, nothing you don't, and is classy to boot.

Very nice. I am like you, there is a special place for my Series 70, it is simply a good looking pistol that preforms well.

Nice!
Very nice, indeed! :D
There was a very good reason Colt went back to producing the Series 70 again in 2002 after a 21 year hiatus! ;)
:D :D

Nice gun!! Enjoy it!
Shoot straight & safe!
I'm thinking more and more about finding one of those.

It's good to see that they are putting decent sights on them now, too. The 1st issue had sights that weren't much of an improvement over the military guns. "Built to shoot"- that's a plus.
Very nice pistol. What is that extremly large hole in the end of it? Oh that's the muzzle, I love a .45

To this point I did not understand that the new issue Series 70 repros actually have 'Mk IV Series 70' on the rollmark. In fact, that IS the old rollmark. How in the heck would anybody tell it from the original if they were not familiar with the various serial number types used on the 70? Joni Lynn says she's thinking of finding one - is she thinking this one is a real 70? In other words, you don't have to look for the repro, they're at every show and all over the gun auctions. It's the real Mk IV Series 70 in excellent condition that you have to look for. Now to complete my 're-education', would somebody tell me if the new ones use the Series 70 collet bushing? I understood they don't, but now I'm not sure.

As far as I know, they are using the standard bushing now, but I may be wrong.

When I stripped it for cleaning, I can confirm it is a standard bushing , not a collet type.
191145,
They don't use the "Accurizor" barrel & bushing and as Sarge mentioned they come with the "Hardballer" types sights. They also come with double diamond stocks instead of the full checkered with Colt medallion. Early versions had the 10mm cutout of the frame rail. I like mine very much but to be honest, they are Series 70s in roll-markings and action type only.
OneJaggedHole,
Very nice Colt, congrats!

Very nice 70 series. I've been drooling ever since I saw one. In my neck of the woods that's $989+ tax. I'm wondering if I should sell a couple of my guns to get one of those. Hammer bite?

Don't feel too bad that's about what I paid, but $ for $ it was worth it for sure. I fired 100 rds through it and got a little abrasion on the webbing of my shooting hand but I didn't even notice it till afterward. I figure I can get a Wilson Drop-In beavertail and change back if I want, from what I hear they are about the only ones that are true drop-in. I don't want to mess with the frame.

Your dealer is a robber.
Couple of weeks ago I was at the range and the owner quoted someone $850 for a new Series 70 Government.
Of course, that was just about the time the idiotic rumors of Colt being sold and going out of business started up again, and I think that resulted in a lot of panic buying that has driven prices up artificially. Shop around on Guns America. They are out there.

Congratulations on the new Colt! I bought one just like yours last month and was able to get it NIB for a super price--don't know who my dealer's supplier was, but I'm not complaining. When I started shopping for a new 1911, the new Series 70 was exactly what I wanted, style wise and function. And, I get to continue using my Colt .22 conversion unit that I paid $183 for back in 1982. I absolutely love it!

The new 70 Series are great guns. I have mine at Bob Rodger's shop getting a "Reliability Package" and a new trigger. Can't wait ! :D

Yep, mine was about $770 + tax, tag, and title, came to about $850.
Course that depends on where in the country you are, and whether or not you are willing to wait for something sometime.
Supply and demand (a concept that works well WITHOUT gubmit interference).

I bought a NIB Series 70 repro with a blued finish for $759+$25 S/H off Gunbroker.
