Hi there, I dont know much about STI, but when I inquired in the SA forum about a 9mm 1911, I was told to check STI out. Could someone make a recommendation, accuracy/reliability/quality is important.

Trojan 5.0. I've ordered one, but must wait until the end of the month for it to ship.

you must be convinced it is the best then, did you have a chance to compare against Kimber, SA, and some of the others? I know there is some real expensive guns outhere as well, I just want to do this once and have a good gun.

Hello. I have the 9mm Trojan with the 6" bbl & slide and have been very pleased with its performance; it has never failed to feed any full-power load and extremely accurate.

Best and good luck.

Hi Stephen, how did you go about making the choice, and what type of price do I look for.

Hello. I wanted a long slide in 9mm and had heard good things about STI so I took a chance. I've had mine a couple of years and it cost me right at $1050.00.

Best.

I did quite a bit of reading on this and other forums before I made the decision. Also, I already own two Kimbers and one is a Stainless Target II in .45 and I didn't want a virtually identical gun, even though the Kimber has been flawless. As for Springfield, they are probably fine, but I prefer to buy products manufactured in the US when possible, which is rare these days.

I really enjoy having "Made in Georgetown, TX" stamped on my STI. Made in the USA and even made in my home state. :D

My STI Trojan shoots so good that people think I know what I'm doing. I'm ashamed it took me so long to get smart.

You can look on some of the gun auction sites for some good deals: www.gunbroker.com, www.gunsamerica.com, and there are a few others out there. I've seen STI Trojan 9mm everywhere from $700-$1500(w/ two slides).

They make a good gun. My wife LOVES her STI Trojan 9mm. (One of those $700 deals...) :)

Thanks for the input, I will look for a trojan, actually , I have seen one with a 5in and a 6in slide for 1500, is it worth it, and how does the forum feel about buying used?????
what would you use the 6in for??

My 5" Trojan has run flaswlessly since I put a 10# recoil spring in it. Great shooter, extremely accurate and well made. You won't regret buying one.

Hey thanks for the advice, I was reading your input on another thread....I am looking at gunbroker for one, What other good manufacturers can be considered in this case anyway??? who makes the best? so far I have had input on SA, some good some bad, Kimber 9mm about 70percent good the rest bad, STI mostly good, les baer mostly good but a rarity and as rock river not much input but the price is lofty...I have also had some suggestions to look into Smith 952 and sigx-five, but these last two are not exactly 1911s.

You might want to look at Para Ordnance P-18. It is a double stack and you folks get it with an 18 round mag. Para guns are well made and extremely accurate. The STI Trojan is a great single stack gun.

You didn't mention you might look at other 9MM. The 1911 is a good platform for the 9MM but there are certainly better 9MM guns out there IMHO. Of my 9MM the CZ 75/85 is about as good as it gets followed by my FN Hi-Powers. I have also heard good things about the HK USP as well. CZ's are quite reasonable and I think have better triggers than the Hi-Power but that is a personal thing.

Stay Safe.

It appears to me that you are looking for a single stack 1911 STI. I have an Edge that I use for USPSA and it's a fine weapon. At at rate, if STI is what you want IMO you won't be sorry. Check their website (STI) and Dawson Precision. My .02. LOL.

Thanks 19elevin, I will check both out, so much pro and cons and opinions it is difficult to make a choice, the only concern is not to make the wrong one. Appreciate the .02 however

Just to echo, you CANNOT go wrong with an STI, no matter which model you go with. If you want single-stack, go with the Trojan. If double-stack, STI makes several, and the Paras are good, too, (from everything I've heard).

Non-1911, my preferences are Hi-Powers (preferably FN) or Glocks. Now, not many folks on this forum like Glocks, but I have had flawless performance from my 3 Glock 9mms (17, 26, 34). The only one I would get rid of is the 17, but only for a 1st Gen G17.

You know it is great to hear all these responses, could someone tell me what is the difference between the Edge and the Trojan, I know the Trojan is single stack and 1911 frame, 19elevin mentioned the Edge as well, and I did go on to Dawson precision, they have reasonable prices...But could someone that has shot both give me a rundown, thanks

Well, here goes.

The Trojan has a bushing and much thinner grip due to it being single stack. It comes with thin panels as well that I didn't really care for. I would get standard sized panels for the Trojan. (but that's just me)

The Eagle is is a double stack and has a thicker grip. It is available with a bushing or with a bull barrel. It is what STI calls the 2011 frame. It also has a polymer grip & trigger guard. It has a standard slide and dust cover.

The Edge is also double stack like the Eagle. It is only available with a bull barrel. It comes with a custom slide and an extended dust cover. It also comes standard with a 2 piece guide rod. (recoilmaster)

If you are not going to do any competition shooting, I would get the Trojan or Eagle. If you plan on shooting IPSC, I would get an Edge. (and I did) Since you are wanting a 9mm I am guessing you aren't planning on doing IPSC or USPSA.

I have shot an Edge and a Trojan both in .40 S&W. While the Edge shoots softer with less recoil, the Trojan was still a pleasure. In 9mm I would suspect that a Trojan would really shine. While not having the front end weight of the Edge, I think the Eagle would still shoot very nicely in 9mm or in .40 S&W.

I am also a big fan of the Browning Hi-Power for 9mm. The big difference you will find is that while the Browning is cheaper, you need to do alot of trigger work on it go get it anywhere near the feel of an STI trigger.

My uncle has been shooting IPSC for years and currently shoots a Para for limited and an SV for open. When asking him about brands, he suggested Kimber over any of the other 'stock' brands. He also suggested STI or SV over anything else.

To echo the rest.. I don't believe you can go wrong with any STI. I also don't think you will get a better fit and finish anywhere.

Hi Reacher, what are you shooting in IPSC etc, and have the rules handicapped the 9mm that much??

Reacher
11th March 2006, 20:31
I am just starting out in IPSC so I really don't know all the rules. I know that the scoring is much harder as Minor opposed to Major. Shooting in Limited I think that .40 is the way to go.

So, can anyone comment who has shot the LS9?

I've read all about how good the 9mm Trojan shoots... how does the smaller LS frame compare to other 9mm pistols?

Thanks!
