I just purchased an Unfired (still in plastic bag/box and colt cardboard box) 1991A1 Gov't Enhanced with the Colt Pachmeyer wrap around grips. It's blued with shiny sides and matte finish on the top rail. It's a damn good looking gun, almost to pretty for me...
My question is, should I sell it to a collector (who would appreciate it for what it is) or just start shooting with it.
It appears to be on of the first 20-something built. The serial # is FR1002XE. I would feel guilty if it has some collector value and I turn it into a shooter. Also, what is the value of the pistol?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
Chuck

I seriously doubt that a 1991 will ever develop much collector value, as they were and are an entry-level line (for Colt).

Shoot it.

Or send it to me, if you'd prefer not to be a witness to it's baptism by fire.

You are a new member so you are forgiven for not knowing that it's the rule here to post pictures of every new gun. Don't forget ...

You, no doubt, poo pooed my baseball card collection back in 1962: "Who is going to pay for something they give you free with lousy gum?"
Hey, you owe me a couple hundred bucks! :o

OK, I think what you have the is an Enhanced Government Model and not an Enhanced 1991A1.

Agree. I clearly saw "Mark IV" on the slide in the larger picture. A Mark IV is not an M1991A1, it's a step or three above in the hierarchy.

Shoot it, man. They all looked like that when new. I bet it shoots great. After that first ding or 'idiot scratch' you'll be able to relax and enjoy it. Any Colt has intrinsic value, and that's about what you're looking at. Collectors won't be interested in it for many years, if ever. Original Series 70s are starting to pick up speed, but you can still get one like new for $650-$750, and any collector would rather have that than a current production enhanced Government Model.

Dang it!! I used to have one just like that and like an idiot :scared: I traded it off. Ought to have my tail whooped for it too!!!

Nice gun. Shoot it and enjoy it. It will probably never loss value so I say enjoy it. Heck, send it to me and I'll break it in for ya!!! :D
