Ok, so I'm hoping this is the right forum...
I have an opportunity to purchase for a very low price (almost too good to be true, which makes me wonder) a Colt frame with an aftermarket slide...
Firearm has obviously been refinished...
S/N on it is c128xx
Can anyone give me info on this firearm?
Thanks,
Rowdymon

Thank you Doran...
Did the 1914's have a grip safety?
Or is it possible that could have been retrofitted?

They all had a grip safety...
Yes, all 1911s have a grip safety. 1914 is the year of manufacture.
You'll probably have to provide more details about the overall gun to find out if the price is good.

Interesting...I learn something new every day..
Basically it's $200, here are a few pics...someone did some gunsmithing work to it, they tried a triple chrome, but there is some pitting, and now there is some rust leaking through...obviously wasn't maintaned very well. Someone did some barrel work, but now it will jam on anything other than roundball...
It's a rescue job...
Here are a few pics...
They didn't come out very well, but it should give you a good idea

I have it in my hot little hands, and for some reason I didn't think to take pictures when I tore it down last night...*duh*.
Someone's used a grinder and buffer on the frame, lightly, but under the grip it just wasn't done with any grace...
Here's what he did on the barrel.

$200, good grief!
If it shoots safely, you cannot go wrong at that price no matter what it looks like.

It could of had the dreaded dremmel job done on the feed ramp which can in most cases be corrected by a good gunsmith. Never the less it would be worth having just to have especially for $200. You might want to have her checked out before you do any shooting just to be sure it is safe and that would be a good time to address the feeding problems. Most times the ramp can be recut (sometimes material will have to be added) to get it back like factory but I don't think I would be talked into a ramped barrel for the old Colt it just would not seem right.

I've already fired it at the range, it feeds hardball just fine, but swc's or hollow points it tends to jam up...
It's a shame, the frame is intact and solid, just chewed up by the 'gunsmith'...*LOL*, but while any collector value is destroyed on it, I'm going to use it to build my second colt, first being a 1991 that I use for home defense and CC, and refuse to do anything to cause it just rolls through brass, never had jam one through some odd 5K rounds I've personally pushed through it, other than two no powder loads and one bad primer...but those don't count IMHO.
This one I think I'll try some of the Gun Kote, maybe a compensated barrel, and play around with some options...see what I like and what I don't...

You are doing the right thing to at least get it back so it will feed and shoot anything like a Colt should. Nice find you had I hope she is back up and running like you want soon.

Thank y'all for the input...
Any idea what I should put down as value on my insurance? I'll need a number for the insurance rider....

I would insure it for at least $700. I am not sure what it is worth but it being a Colt from that year it it still worth something regardless of the condition
