So, yesterday I traded a Kimber Eclipse Pro II for a new baby. The Kimber was great but it did have that pesky firing pin block, aka 80 series, I think it is called Schwartz or something. Anyway I looked at alot of pistols and saw a new Colt 70 series. It was a trade off because he had a WWI replica that was the same price. The sales guy told me they are both only made by the custom house now, it came in a nice blue box with 3 colt magazines. He said that Colt is in the process of being purchased by an unknown company. He said the military division has already been bought by General Electric. He also said when it does happen the price of Colt's will probably go up 40% or more.

Any recommmedations would be great, I am torn on leaving it stock or having it massaged a little. My question is this, should I leave it stock or as I was originally planning to do send it to Yost-Bonitz for a 1* package. The trigger needs some help. I do have to say that I am mightly impressed with the reliability though. I took it out of the package, fired 100 rds, Rem 230 ball with only 1 FTExtr/stovepipe, but I see that as a magazine issue. So the other 99 went bang and clang, that is the way a pistol should act.

Sorry, but rather than asnwer your question, I have one for you instead. What specifically don't you like about the firing pin safety? I'm considering buying a Series 80 Gold Cup and am trying to learn as much as possible.

Colt's current firing pin safety is operated by the trigger. Kimber and S&W use an older design that Colt tried before WW2 and abandoned after the war, called the Swartz system. It is acuated by the grip safety.

As Hawk said, the Series 80 fining pin safety isn't what Kimber and Smith are using. I believe Para Ord uses the Series 80 style.

The military division was purchased by General Dynamics, 6 years ago.

Correct.

Do not pay attention to what you hear in the gun shops. I often find that the customers (some of them, the trick is knowing which) know a lot more than the people behind the counter.

Wow 6 years ago. I guess I'm a little behind the ball on that one.
eshaw3645- To answer you question the reason I like the series 70 without the firing pin block is it is simplier to get a great trigger pull and less moving parts.
