Ok, here's the deal. I love 1911s. I only have two, but I love 'em.
Colt DE in SS(pre-enhanced) and a new Kimber Eclipse CustomII, both in 10mm.

I want a .45 - and I want a another Colt!

Carrying the 5" Govt. is not a problem, but I'm really attracted to the Commander size. But, I can't seem to find a "New"(1991) Commander that I like!!! I've looked online and I've looked in every local gunshop.

But I really think I want an "OLD" Combat Commander. A steel framed work horse for everyday carry - and range work every weekend. (I'm wondering if I'm destined to lurk the statewide gun shows until one pops up!).

Am I thinking wrong here?

Will one of the 1991 Commanders do the job for me? Should I just get and XSE?
I'm stumped!!!

I know you fellas have a wealth of knowledge and if you could spare the time to reply I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks a million for your time!
Mystro :)

look on the www.

check gunsamerica, gunbroker and auctionarms.

also, look for the GUNLIST.

you may have a difficult time finding a NEW 1991 since they dont make them anymore. you may find a LNIB or NIB, but will have to do some waiting and chances are, some collecter has one but may not be willing to let one go.

I spent the last year looking and waiting for an S&W 617, 4" bbl, 10 shot, w/o the stupid safety. I finally got one this month, but it was used but in really good condition.

I just saw a used 1991 a1 combat commander at the gun show this past weekend too....ouch.

just keep on looknig.

I can tell you that I have a 1991A1 Colt Compact and I love it. It is my primary carry weapon and serves range duty as well. I have not carried a Commander but it is similar enough to my Compact (my Compact being a little smaller) to tell you I would have plenty of confidence in either pistol. Anything that will be a carry weapon needs to be proven at the range of course but after that I think the Commander would serve you well. It may take a little looking to find one like you want but I imagine it would be worth it.

Thanks bangbang,
Thanks Hunter,

I guess I'll just have to keep lurking.
If you see an old man in tattered clothes at the gun shows, carring a sign that says, "Will Work For Combat Commander", it's me.

Thanks,
Mystro

Like Hunter, I have a 1991 Compact. It is possibly the most reliable .45 I own. It's all steel, and has no useless frills.

Why would you NOT want one? A 1991 Commander IMHO is a perfect pistol for carry use. (Others prefer alloy frames for carry, but being as old as I am, I don't trust alloy frames.)
