I have an early S80 Colt that has a collet style barrel bushing. I want to replace it with a "drop in" type bushing and have read some good things on this forum about EGW angle bored bushings but I have to admit I dont really understand what " angle bored" means. Will this be ok to use with the older type Colt barrel that has a slight taper?

Measure the outside diameter of your barrel with a good caliper. Then measure the inside diameter of your slide. Then call EGW and have them make a bushing for you. They'll even round off the edges for a dehorn look and feel, all for around 20$ I think.

Angle bored just means that the bushing is bored at a slight angle. This allow everything to run free when the barrel drops down and the slide reciprocates. When it all comes back into lock up and the barrel cams back up, the bushing get tighter on the barrel. You'll like that EGW bushing! 44 Man

You have a Series 80 with a collet bushing? What is stamped on the barrel hood? Is the barrel turned down behind the bushing like a Series 70? I thought they dropped the collet bushing with the Series 80, so I'm wondering if your gun is original. I'm not saying it isn't, but I didn't know they came that way.

I had a series 80 nickle 1911 that came with the collet bushing.
It was an earlier 80's gun but it had the collet bushing.

Its an original MK IV series 80 that the lady named Carol at Colt said was made in 1985.
