Hi there all,

Over the years, I've own an assortment of Colt Products.

One that I owned and really miss was a 1991 A1 Colt Commander that was blued and shot like a champ. I sold it to finance a bunch of other projects at the time and was struggling to keep up with being a single parent with two children.

I really got to thinking yesterday and called my dealer to find out if he could locate a Colt Commander, Blued, in .45 ACP. He at one time was a stocking dealer for Colt and used to host a yearly "Colt Day" at the indoor shooting range where the Colt Rep would travel into town and bring a dizzying assortment of Colt long and handguns for folks to buy a huge discount and dealer samples that could be shot for the price of range time and ammo!

But, I digress. I really want to buy the new Colt Commander in .45 ACP, blued with the Colt Medallion Rosewood Stocks. The dealer thought that he could find one, but it would take an rather lengthy bit of time to find out who had them in stock. Davidson's doesn't have them in stock and leaves Ellet Bros. and RSR.

Carolinaman,

Do you have a Gander Mountain handy ? Late last fall I saw one in our local store. I don't remember the price, but I don't think it was way out of line.

Good luck with the search,

Hersh

PS: in hindsight I should have snagged the one I saw

Hi Hersh,

No, we have a Bass Pro Shop here in N. Myrtle Beach, but they don't stock Colt Products.

The largest retailer is our local range which was a Colt Master Dealer at one time. The owner told me Saturday that it was going to be difficult at best to locate one from one of his wholesaler's.

Edited to add:

Dang! I just read Mark's Post about the 2006 Colt Production Schedule! They aren't going to make any for the first 6 months of this year!

I've been contemplating the same model for some time.
I've looked online at places like Guns America, but I don't know if I'm ready to buy a firearm over the internet sight unseen! Even if I do get three days to inspect it!

Today I cruised by one of the gun local shops and low and behold!
A blued 1991 Commander! They're asking $799. That's probably a little high, but, heck I think I really want one. I'm planning on stopping back when I get my next commission check.

I'll keep you posted.

I've been looking hard for that perticular pistol local with no luck.I bought a new series 80 NRM yesterday and plan on the 04691 later to have a nice "set".IMHO the commander model looks more balanced and I've always liked the ring hammer.
