I received a 1911 Gov't model Ithaca in trade from my brother. I'd like to find out more about the gun's value and collectability as well as it's service history.

I emailed Ithaca and have not received a respose as of yet.

I have good digitals of it but am new to the site. Can anyone let me know how to post photos?

The Serial # 1212XXX

Post the serial number with the last three digits xxx'd out. That will help determine the year it was made and maybe where it was first sent. There's some picture posting stuff in the FAQ's section.

No records of that kind exsist!! Your gun made in 1943 in a group of 70,000

This was the response that I got from "Sid" at Ithaca. Exactly as he sent it.
I have looked into the FAQ and am in the process of setting up a web address to view the photos. I will update when available.

Thanks,
Brian

Ithaca gave you the approx number of pistols shipped in the 2nd Contract.

Probably shipped end of Nov43 or Dec43 to either the Augusta Ordnance Depot or the Rock Island Ordnance Depot. I got this from the Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols by Charles Clawson. This is an excellent reference book if you want to know about any military 1911 or 1911A1; I'd say required if you intend to collect any.

You can also try:

http://www.armscollectors.com/srs.htm

This has actual issue information to units and ships for some serial numbers. Good Luck.

You can view photos of my Gov't Model on my Webpage; http://home.comcast.net/~prplflh71/wsb/index.html

They are under the "photo" link icon at the top of the page. Once selected the gun photos are on the last page of photos!

Thanks,
