I am thinking about putting "hogue type" rubber finger groove grips on my black stainless for range work. Also thinking about a set of "dress up" grips for showing off the pistol. Anyone have any suggestions?

My preference would be black micarta on a black stainless 1911. I do not like rubber grips. I like wood grips on my 1911s. The only rubber grips that are on my 1911 is on my stock Norinco. No finger grooves.

I had the hogue rubber grips on my loaded but didn't like them, check out simonich "gunner grips" for the dress up. www.simonichknives.com, I put a set on mine and just love them. They're a bit more expensive but worth it. Here's a pic.

I like those, but I am with y'all...I am not much for the finger groove grips. One of the things I enjoy with the 1911 is the thinness of the grip itself. My loaded, I took the rosewood grips off and put black rubber slabs on it. I love them, especially when it is hot and your hands sweat...

If you have big hands, the Hogue grips are great...(on my Gold Cup now) I am also quite partial to the Pachmayer signature wrap arounds(no groves) I also Have a set of "dress" Alumagrips... :D

I like the standard Hogue rubber grips because the palm swell on them seems to fill my hand better. I really didn't care for the finger groove grips though. I have small hands, and the added length on the front strap made it dificult for me to get a good solid grip on the gun.

I like the Pachmayer rubber grips with finger groves on my Loaded:

The groves feel real nice in my hand and make me feel like I have a good solid grip on the gun.
