I was surfing the web on SightM1911>gallery>historic colts and came across a picture of what looked like a modified 1911, with a light sight and silencer.
Anyone have any info on this, and why is it historic?

Mark this what I found out. The Colt Socom was developed in the early 90's to be entered into consideration into the Socom Ohws ( Special operations command offensive handgun weapon system) contract. It was a double action .45 ACP with a 10 round detachable box magazine. It was fitted for a suppressor or muzzle brake that mounted to the pistols frame. Colt used several of their current pistols when developing the Socom (the 1911 and the Double Eagle being two) It however lost out to the HK Mk 23 for the contract.
