Hello all,

I can relate with gfen's post. I was at the gun shop today and came real close to buying a new Colt Series 80 m1911 ($595). This would be my first m1911. I own only one other pistol - a Sig P229 in .40 which I am not impressed with from an accuracy standpoint. I am interested in the m1911 for use on the target range and also to do some plinking on the weekends. I am not ready to invest in a custom gun yet but I want to get something that will be of high-quality and reliable for years to come. I noticed John had a previous post saying that he would choose either a Colt, Kimber or Springfield as his first m1911. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Get a NRM Colt Gov't or commander you won't be disappointed, I'll leave it to you to choose between the blued model or stainless. :D

Yep, just check the trigger for smoothness of action and with the gun in lock up, check for excessive play of the barrel muzzle in the bushing, the bushing to slide play and the distance the rear of the barrel can be pushed down. The greater these clearances, the less likely the gun is to be accurate.

Heh, something just happens, eh?

My M1911 may be my first and only handgun, but I know I've made the right choice. I've fired a few others' handguns before and after purchasing this guy, and while I'm not the best of shots with it, yet, I wouldn't trade it in for any other pistol I've used before or after.

Just waiting for my Ciener kit to get here so I can use it a little economically.
