I could really use a more experienced hand to guide me. I have fitted my Gov RIA with a new Wilson Combat trigger, hammer, sear, and beavertail grip. Since this is my first time wearing my gunsmith hat I knew it was very possible to run into a problem. To help minimise this I tried to change things one by one to make sure that new part agreed with the rest of my rig. All went smoothly until coming to the final step the new grip. I trimmed the tang and have the whole thing fitted and put back together but now my hammer will not lock into any position half or full cock. I was almost home free without a hitch, but apparently the is always a catch. Can anyone out there please lend a hand, and throw some suggestions my way? Any help will be welcomed.

Trigger?
Do you mean the hammer won't cock?

When you say the hammer can't lock into any position, do you mean it moves back, but does not stay locked? Most probably your trigger is a bit too long and it needs to be fitted to the sear, so that it allows the sear to cam back enough to engage the hooks of the hammer.
However, I am not a gunsmith, so I will not try to explain you what you should do to solve the problem, 1911Tuner, or someone more expert than me should jump in here.

Check to see that the left leg of the sear spring is on top of the left sear foot. It will slip under it sometimes, and the gun will assemble...but the hammer won't cock.

Johnny I have had that happen to me a few times when reassembling from detail strip and that is a great idea you got. My advice would to remove the mainspring housing and grip safety and eyeball everything closely while you work the hammer with your hand and see why the sear is not catching.

I sure apreciate your help, I was know something is with the sear not being engaged, I will try both 1911tuner and Hunter's suggestions and see how it goes I will keep you posted.

Well 1911tuner was correct the sear spring was indeed under the little foot that it is supposed to sit on. It is now running through all of its functions just fine won't be able to live fire test till this weekend though. Then it will be time to disassemble blast refinish, polish and reassemble. I can't wait! Once again I do very much appreciate the assistance.

After you reassemble remember to test fire with only ONE round in the mag at a time, then two ect. Mike.
