Saw this and HAD to have it, dunno why, I just did. Won by less than $10, thought I did pretty darn good-

Combat Elite, two tone, looks like a Kings beavertail, not sure about hammer, mainspring housing appears to be a Pachmayer flat unit. Looks like the original trigger, note the Gunsite Thumb Safety and the front cocking serrations. Those look like Hogue grips and stainless grip screws. Someone spent some bucks on this gun.

Did I miss anything?

Also, one thing I thought was odd was that most Combat Elites have adjustable sights. This one appears to have some kind of aftermarket fixed sights-front and rear or was this a Colt offering at one time?

Can't wait to see what this one looks like in person.

Nice looking Colt, I have always like the look of the Carbon slide and the SS frame.

Good deal.

Nice Colt. The Combat Elite could be had with fixed sights as well as adjustable.

The bluing is off on the high spots but that's fine by me. I shoot and carry my pistols so honest wear is never a turn off.

Will have to see how the trigger pull is but I am hoping that since they popped for the hammer and all the other work that they spent the little extra to get a first class trigger pull. Kinda like Christmas! It will be a rough week to 10 days before this one arrives.

Your Colt looks nice, I agree, waiting is always the hardest part

Anyone know if those are the original fixed sights?

I have had some luck in finding photos of fixed sight guns and they don't look like that. However, the gun has apparently been made for quite awhile and there seems to be alot of variation in the package between 86-02. Some guns have fixed sights, some adjustable, all of them are two tone but some have beavertails some just the old Colt style grip safety, some have a commander type hammer and some the old spur.....

I tend to think this was a little later production gun due to the beavertail etc....

Combat Elites started out "pre-enhanced", then changed to enhanced. Looks like yours has had the sights, beavertail, hammer, possibly trigger, and grips, changed out. Diccontinued 1996

Diccontinued 1996+1 to what paul45 said. But I would like to add I have a enhanced combat elite and it has been an excellent shooter. you seem to have gotten a fair price on yours. enjoy :D

I have just purchased a Combat Elite and its really the best shooting Colt I have. I Have run 1500 rounds through it now and it hasn't even winked. It's stock and I do get a little hammer bite that I never notice until long after I'm gone from the range. I love the look too. I have a super clean 1917 Colt 1911 and a 70's series electroless nickle made in 73 and the series 80 combat elite outshouts them all. Its a good choice for carry and just for plain shooting since my other ones are collectables.

I just a a real clean Mauser c96 red 9 at the gunshow in St. Louis and I can't wait to see what makes it tick too. Well I'm going on here so good luck.

What?

You can never go wrong with a Combat Elite, a little wear adds character.

Well, I have had the pistol in my grubby little mitts now for awhile. It was FILTHY when I got it. I took a couple of hours to detail strip it and clean and properly lubricate it. The front and rear sights are definitely replacements. The trigger is wonderful! I dunno who did the work but they knew what they were doing. The Colt style serrations on the front of the slide are executed perfectly. The Gunsite safety is very positive, well fitted.

One interesting thing is that the front strap was serrated in the Colt style-7 vertical lines. Dunno if this was factory but I suspect done by a smith, looks good. Also, the top of the slide has been matted. Looks like they used the file method, very nice stippling. This was not factory work or was it?

Pistol shoots very well. No malfunctions of any kind. This gun was a hell of a buy! To replicate it would cost considerably more than what I paid. Very happy with it. It is my new daily carry gun.

Lawyerman,

Nice looking Colt!
I believe the rear is a Yost-Bonitz Retro

You're right. It sure does look like a Yo Bo retro. This is a neat pistol, I dunno what it's history is but I sure wish I did. This was someones "special" gun-at least in my mind.

I like to think that it got passed down to their idiot nephew or son. The idiot had no idea of what he had, used and abused it and eventually pawned it for $200 probably. It now has a loving home and I hope whoever owned and had it modified originally knows that I will care for it until the end of my days.

Sappy kind of stuff I suppose but to me guns are about alot more than metal and wood.

I agree with you that guns are about allot more than metal and wood. I have firearms that belonged to my grandfather, father, mother, and uncle and you can believe they mean more to me that what the blue book calls for. I have a few Colts that were in desperate need of a new home and I was glad to be the person to give them one. Quality firearms stir something in my soul like my hundred year old Winchester 1897 12 ga or my 1918 Colt 1911 .45 ACP to name a few.
