Internal barrel ramp, external extractor.
The round goes half way into the barrel about a 40 degree angle.
I've checked the extractor by placing a round in it, goes in with relative ease.
I'm now on my third mag, at $50 a pop not an option to keep checking them out. I've had the recoil spring replaced with a the standard 16.5 the gun came with.
The problem stopped for about two mags, then reappeared. I then tried this with one mag at a time. Same problem no matter which mag used. Problem will appear also when racking the slide back or also when dropping the slide from the open position.
The gun will also lock open without emptying the mag, this occurs on all 3 mags.
I have not replaced the magwell spring, barrel, or link.

Next time it happens...when the round is up the ramp at a 40 degree angle...look closely at the breechface and cartridge. Is the breechface
on top of the case...or is it hitting the back of the case rim?

And this is not the proper way to check your extractor for proper tension. The article on how to test your extractor is in the Technical Issues forum.
