Hi guys! i decide to buy my first compact so i choose an OACP, Why ? well, it's my fisrt colt too, so i think in to combine 2 of my wishes a Colt + Compact.

This OACP series 80 it's stock and i heard about some recoil problems using the 2 springs, mabe someone can give a good advice about this gun  .

I'm comming from big guns like Para P14, Sig P226(.40 and 357 SIG) but now i need something for concealed carry and self defense.

This is my new OACP ( Well, new for me :o , jejeje!!)

Looks exactly like my friend's Mark IV Officers model. I shot it one day at his range and fell in love with it. His handles any ammo he throws at it, it's dead-nuts accurate, and a pure joy to shoot. His is completely stock, so my advice regarding yours is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

One possible weakness in the Officers models is the recoil spring plug. It's different from a Government model. There's a small tab on the inner end that locks it into the slide. After a lot of rounds the tab may shear off and recoil spring plug (and spring) get launched down range. I have the same arrangement on a Para 12.45 LDA. My solution was to buy a spare plug. Once my round count starts to get up there, I'll probably use the original for range and practice work, and install the new one when I'm carrying the pistol and may need to use it "for real."

Other than that -- leave it alone.

I agree with Hawk. I would not do anything to the Colt. I have a 1911A1 Colt Compact and carry it almost everyday. I have shot it quite a bit and have all the confidence in the world in my little Colt as I do with all my Colt pistols. You did good with the Colt and I am sure you will be pleased with it.

I would recommend the Wolff replacement recoil spring for it, the single just seems to cycle smoother than the double spring set up.

I upgraded the barrel bushing to a thicker unit, as well as installed a high grip safety. I still have the stock recoil plug and 2 spring unit. I haven't decided to upgrade those or just keep spares.
