I've been a Ruger guy (pistols, revolvers and rifles) for many years but I don't know much about Colts. I have come to own my late father-inlaws 1911 1A Colt and would like some history on it if it's possible. He was a Marine in WW II and was wounded in battle in the South Pacific. He brought home his service weapon and carefully protected it for all these years. It is serial number 938XXX, has the initials G.H.D. along with 41 stampings. It is a greenish parkerized color with brown bakelite grips. It has 95%+ original finish and has never been modified or worked on since he was issued it.
Does anyone have any insights to this pistol?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave
