All -

I'm familiar with M1911s (I own a USGI Colt M1911) but I'm not familiar with Springfields.

I spotted a Springfield M1911 A1 on a list for an estate sale. The SN listed is "NM 62XXX".

What type of Springfield is this? Is it a GI gun built by the Army's Springfield Armory, or is it one made by the civilian Sprinfield Armory company? Does the NM serial number mean it is a National Match pistol?

What's the approximate value of such a piece (they're listing it for $350, and that seems like a decent deal, depending on what it is).

Thanks.

Call this number it is the toll free number for Springfield Armory ask for thechnical service and some sweet young lady will answer the phone. Give her the serial number and whe can tell tyou the model number and name and also the date of manufacture, if and when it was discontinued or not and the selling price MSRP at the time of manufaacture. Had them do this for me on a couple used guns.
