I bought one just over a week ago, have not had the chance to shoot it yet. Mine has a fiber optic front sight. The blue finish is very high polish compared to my CD and Rock Island. The only concern I have is the LPA rear sight blade seems loose. It came with two 8 round novak mags. The slide to frame fit is very nice with just a small amount of movement. Hope to be able to shoot it before the week is out.

novak mags! thats good, they use to come with MECGAR mags.... tell me how it shoots ok...... :)

Finally made it to the range with it yesterday, didn't have any time for bench rest. It seems that the extractor maybe to tight, had to push the back of the slide several times for it to go home. Used wolf 230 and armscor 230 ball ammo. My target was the dangerous 20 oz coke bottle at 25 yards. It was hard to miss with that pistol, I didn't do quite so well with the Rock Island, I think sights had a lot to do with it.

Thank you very much for the info. I'll be getting one soon. I'll be testing it out on when i get it. i'll be shooting on the a coke bottle to :)

heres my baby...well for me its very satisfying kinda tight at first but as soon as you exceed 200 rnds its smooth as silk. havnt jammed since day one, well atleast 200 rnds of fmj....and the rest 1800 rnds or more reloads cuz theyre much cheaper...hope to try atleast 50 rnds of hollow point once i get the chance to fit it in the budget...or maybe i just got lucky...
like labuyo said it cost only arnd $280...well i guess its a different unit, cuz i got mine for arnd PHP 42,000 including paper work thats arnd $764.00...well if his right than i got ripped of majorly by my gun store....GRRRRRRR!!!!!(:

Hi all,
Newbie here. Got one from the last gun show at Megamall. It is the standard model. Have to wait 3-4 weeks though before I get my hands on it. Have any malfunctions or broken parts so far? What ammo did you use to break it in?

Are the Hi-Viz front sights dovetail bases? Or are they narrow tenons? How do the sights line up? Are they accurate/consistant, where do they print on paper, hi/low? and from what distance are you shooting?
kutsero
27th April 2006, 04:13
The frontsights on my medallion standard are dovetail base. Regarding the POI, it is dead on approximately 25 feet from target from my experience.

I got my Medallion Hi-cap .40 a couple days ago and took it to the range this afternoon.
I have to say that fit and finish is good. The gun looks much better than the run-of-the-mill Rock Island. Too bad it doesn't feed! I'll have to get some tweaking done.

Ivan
Ivan,
I ran the gun with factory Federal ammo. Most problems came from bullets getting pushed into the case mouth or feeding about halfway and stalling just under the extractor.
I have some 1.2" ammo that runs wonderfully in my STI. I'll give that stuff a try as soon as I can.

I am at a loss as to why I have problems and you didn't. The ammo I used is Federal XM40SWB. It's 155-grain and has a rather pointed ogive. I only have the one mag so far.
I am going to send the gun to my friend Virgil Tripp while he's still taking in custom work. I'll get him to take a look at things and tune accordingly. I want to get it chromed anyway, as that finish is unbeatable on a competition gun.
Sorry for the delay, guys. I'll get some pictures up one of these days.

Just a quick update if anybody is still following this.
I shot 200 rounds of various ammo types/styles through the gun yesterday with no failures to feed. I used two factory Para Ordnance P-16 magazines with Dawson extended basepads. Ammo capacity with the basepads is 21 packed rounds or an easily-loaded 20 rounds. That's as much ammo as a Vietnam era M-16!
I don't know if it was the Para nickle plating or maybe the rounds sit a little higher in the feed lips. Either way, the Para mags have made me one happy camper!

hi! to all Medallion tactical owner. may I ask if it is worth the price? I do like the black finish of the gun. can you tell me what are the specs that differ from the standard armscor.
hi! considering all the extras that come with the Medallion Tactical, it is a bargain. the most important feature of the Medallion is that it is hand fitted by a resident gunsmith. as a result, the slide to frame fit is tighter than a normal fit for a 1911, among others. also, it has checkerings that are not found on the standard armscor. it also comes with an adjustable LPA rear sight. it is a bomar type sight. i've tried one and i would say that it has a crisp trigger compared to a standard armscor. again, another feature of it being hand fitted by a gunsmith.
i've been to all the divisions in practical shooting except the revolver division. it is in the standard division that i've decided to finally settle in. and the armscor Medallion Tactical would be my firearm of choice. all you need is to put in a magwell and that's it!
happy shooting!

Mine is the Medallion standard model. Caliber 45, single stack, novak rear sight, fiber optic front sight, no serrations at front of slide, wood grips, deep blue finish, 2 novak(by act-mag) 8 rounder mags. Got it during the July, 2005 gunshow. Paid $640 for gun + license + gun club membership. Gun itself was discounted by 30%.
The tactical model looks good but some of it's features I can do without. What I was after was the hand fitting. The difference in price I used to buy me bullets, holster, range time and additional CMC 10 rounder mag.
As it is, the Medallion is a very reliable pistol which would not need any further smithing (at least with mine :D ).
Only problem I encountered were with bad reloads and a cracked feed lip in one of the novak mags (by act-mag, seems to be a common problem-search the threads)that was replaced by Armscor under warranty. ;)

i had a chance to shoot the standard model .45 single stack last week during practice at the range. shot 2 stages with it. it performed well. i hit more alphas than i was expecting considering that i'm used to shooting a 9mm tanfoglio combat model. recoil was manageable.
i'm expecting that the medallion would perform even better than the standard model. i'll keep you guys posted...

Hi! got my new tactical medallion 45 yesterday although at first i got dissappointed im expecting it all fully hard chrome but when i got it the top of it was sun blast finish. i brought it to local gunsmith surprisingly he told me that the looks like mac4 finish he even show me the real mac4 own by afp general. he told me thats the best finish that he saw compared with the previous release of armscor. i had a chance to took it the range had a 100 rds of fmj And im hapi so say the performance does well compared to my taurus 9mm millenium and i can say the medallion really worth the price.

Hi! got my new tactical medallion 45 yesterday although at first i got dissappointed im expecting it all fully hard chrome but when i got it the top of it was sun blast finish. i brought it to local gunsmith surprisingly he told me that the looks like mac4 finish he even show me the real mac4 own by afp general. he told me thats the best finish that he saw compared with the previous release of armscor. i had a chance to took it the range had a 100 rds of fmj And im hapi so say the performance does well compared to my taurus 9mm millenium and i can say the medallion really worth the price.

so, where are you from sniper 888? it seems that while the rest of us(in central and southern luzon at least) were getting a beating from typhoon "milenyo", you are enjoying yourself at the range?? lucky you.
i've now officially named my tactical medallion "milenyo"! i was suppose to get my medallion yesterday but due to bad weather, i wasn't. as of today, all establishments in the calamity area are still closed so i have to wait till monday to get it. first the computer bogged down, then typhoon milenyo. i hope nothing goes wrong this time!

guys! here's a picture of my test fire on my medallion. the group on top has 8 rounds through it. i fired it freestyle, standing from 10 meters. the second group below has 9 rounds through it from the bench at 10 meters.
i would say that it is a pretty accurate pistol based on my group shots. i'm still getting used to its trigger pull so i may be able to improve the grouping next time. there are two flyers on the first group and another one on the second group. if we dont consider those, it would be a tight group.

thanxs or the info. the gunsmith disassemble the magazine they have to do something so the magazine will fit in the magwel i guess its something to do with the 2 mecgar magazine coz when i used the mccormick ( which is not touch by the gunsmith ) i didnt experience any problem with my firing. it never jammed.

Here are some pictures of my Medallion now that it's back from Tripp Research. Virgil is no longer taking in custom gunsmithing but he's still doing the chrome thing.
I had Virgil tune the gun so it'll run with hollowpoints, lighten up the trigger, install a big button on the mag release and install the Dawson mag funnel. I had some feeding problems with the Mec-Gar mag that came with the pistol but it runs fine with Para Ordnance mags and long loaded ammo. And now it runs with JHP's loaded to an overall length of 1.13"
This is an outstanding pistol!

Wow your hard chromed medallion looks outstanding Sniper888, The medallion displayed at the Armscor range at makati comes with blued finished, they told me i could have it chromed after i bought it/ did yours come in hard chrome already? how much did you pay for it ? i think the blued one cost around 38k pesos/ I am really getting confused on what to buy for my first 1911, the medallion, PT1911, or the Spartan ( once it comes out). Hi! otaku! its a different thing when you buy a blued finished then youll have it chrome. i was also adviced by bengie of armscor of makati to do that but i hesitated & called armscor main they told me if you prefer the chrome you might as well order for a chrome finished, the process is different from other gunsmith who offer chrome finishing. fortunately i got my medallion hard chrome for 2 weeks only. 3 days for the ptc. armscor main refer me to squires & good thing they have delivery on that day.. 45k for hard chrome, top slide is already sun blast. my magazine release right now is left & right coz im left handed i also replace the green dove tail to red for visibility. put s & a magwell also. for pt1911 you might have a problem in case you want it to be customised have the specs check consider for possible upgrade as you know my pt 111 millinieum works well but the parts is always unavailable.

Hi Sniper888, thanks for the info, i was just at Armscor makati yesterday and the blued finished cost already 39k+++ pesos, might as well get the chromed one for the additional few thousands. According to Trust Trade the blued PT1911 will be on display next week and cost lower than the medallion, but your right, for a first time maker of a 1911 it might be wise to have a wait-and-see attitude to make sure all the bugs have been worked out. I usually shot at Armscor makati on mondays due to the cheaper bullets on that day, maybe you could let me shot a few rounds on your medallion :D

oh i see, so they already increase the price it used to be 35k only for the blued finish. why dont you wait for gun show this november @ least you will be able to get around 15 to 20% discount. regarding pt 1911 the problem with taurus is the trigger, its hard to use it in the range due to trigger allowance. im not sure if they are going to come up with combat trigger & hammer. ive seen it in the internet it cost around $700.

The practical series is just an upgraded of their GI series. The medallion is already customize, all you have to is break in the unit. however in my case i also made some changes in my pistol. the medallion came with lpa bomar sight and front dovetail sight, it also comes with combat trigger and hammer, left and right ambi, sun blasted top slide ( for fully hard chrome unit ) pachmyr grip, 8 rounds mecgar mags but i suggest you use mc cormick mags so you wont have prob in mag feed. check the pics of my unit longslide posted it for me i think its in page 11 of this thread, you can also check the pic of dyris unit for the medallion blued finish..

well if you want it to be customized and you want to come up with a nice pistol i suggest you buy the GI series its quite cheaper compared to practical series anyway you will change almost everything. trigger, hammer, sight, magwell, checkering you can have it long gas too it comes with bull barrel. however parts and all the gunsmith expences to sum it all it might be expensive rather than buying the medallion series. for medallion series all you have to add is the magwell the rest is ok. you just have to break in the unit.

max_paine,
there's a gun show at megamall this month. why don't you come and check out the booth of armscor?
regarding your question, the answer really depends on your needs. are you going to use the gun purely for sports? if so, it is better to get the medallion and then just add a magwell. if it will double as a carry gun, i would suggest that you get a practical series and then customize it to your liking. the reason? the medallion's sights, the front sight with fiber optic and the lpa rear sights are not "carry friendly". the practical series has a novak type rear sight. snag free as they say. also, if you are going to use an IWB holster, a novak type sight is for you. i've tried using a fanny pack on my medallion and the front sight got caught on the built in holster.
hope this helps in your decision.

regarding your question, the answer really depends on your needs. are you going to use the gun purely for sports? if so, it is better to get the medallion and then just add a magwell. if it will double as a carry gun, i would suggest that you get a practical series and then customize it to your liking. the reason? the medallion's sights, the front sight with fiber optic and the lpa rear sights are not "carry friendly". the practical series has a novak type rear sight. snag free as they say. also, if you are going to use an IWB holster, a novak type sight is for you. i've tried using a fanny pack on my medallion and the front sight got caught on the built in holster.
hope this helps in your decision.
try to use the fobus outside holster...
