View Full Version : Thumb Safety won't engage in slide slot

I'm new here as a member, but have gotten alot of advice by reading the posts , however I have not seen this problem mentioned. I have attempted to place a SAM commander type slide on my early Para frame. It fit quite well and performed slide racking functions well also. HOWEVER, when checking the thumb safty, it would not engage in the saftey slot on the slide. It looks like all I need to do is lightly file the slot and it will engage. Now, is this what I should do or is there something else I should be looking at? I do not want to do this until I get one or more of my fellow members opinions.
Thanks

From what you've said, I would be more apt to lightly file/polish the top front edge of the thumb safety. That should not affect the safety function and it is an easily replaced part in the future should you change slides back.
Additionally, John wrote a few days ago about how he will 'round the top corner of the thumb safety so that, if he should hit it with his thumb while firing, the slide will push it down rather than hammering on it.
By trimming the front edge slightly(enough to clear the edge of the slide triangular slot) you won't be affecting anything but you might have to redrill the detent indentation.

Post some pictures to show us where the bind occurs. It's hard to suggest a remedy, without seeing what the problem is.
Remember, always alter the least expensive part.
