I'm a new and proud Kimber Custom II owner. I traded a Beretta Couger 8040F plus some cash for it NIB.

In addition I have a SigSauer P220 in .45 cal. Now I've been buying ammunition for my P220 for quite a while, usally 230 grain FMJ from American, Federal or CCI or sometimes (but not anymore) Wolf (too dirty).

I read in my owners manual I should use a good quality commercial "ball" ammunition. Problem is, I don't know how that differs from what I'm already shooting in my P220, if at all.

Any light?

just what you are using. 230gr round nose FMJ. JMB's design of the 1911 was developed to handle just that cartriage. Army had bad experiences with 38 caliber in use in conflicts and required a larger round and .45 caliber was their choice. Army had used 45 Colt in single actions and then went to 38 in double action revolvers. Proved unsatisfactory against a determined enemy. Harlie

Thanks for the clarification. I've heard it called that before.
