I am a fan of the 1911 and would like to buy an 80% frame and put one together for myself. Does anyone know of a good place to get a parts kit that has everything I need or am I better off studying diagrams and coming up with my own parts list?

And I do understand that some work will still need to be done to the frame and I have the proper tools to perform the work.

I have not been in the military, I just enjoy the history behind the 1911 and the dependability. Thanks for the suggestions. The exploded view on MidwayUSA will be a big help!

Got my 80% frame from:

https://www.vbd.com/noc/shop/products_category.asp?CategoryID=44

I am getting the parts from:

https://www.sarcoinc.com

Scroll down and hit parts, then handguns then 1911. look for part number C45097. It includes everything you need except the frame.

To find the rail cutter, go to:

http://www.diyguns.com

They sell one that is 18mm. I makes for a tight fit but lapping the slide to the frame will give you a great, really smooth action.

Got my parts from Sarco and found that the slide and hammer were not there. Called them this morning and they said the parts were on "back order" and it could be 30 to 60 days. However, they did not put that info on the invoice. Not good business practice in my book. Also, all the parts have a black finish. That fits my plans fine, but it may not yours.
