Nice pistol, dsk. Ithacas may be the most ho-hum of the breed but they helped us win the war like all the others. Thanks for sharing!

I learned something new. I didn't know about the right hand slide marking. I ain't no expert but I know a bit about the 1911 just from trial and error and being around them and enjoying them. But there's so much to know about these guns. It seems that the information is just endless.
If you haven't picked up a copy of Clawson's Service Pistol guide, now is the time before they're all gone. I believe they can still be ordered through www.coolgunsite.com, and are less than $40. Trust me, after a few years people will be paying $200+ for this book again. Even if you're not heavily into collecting it's a good read.

Oh I have a question too. Why in the picture of the Ithaca the front half of the slide look lighter than the rear half? Is that a sign of refinishing?
I'm taking a stab at a guess. I'm guessing heat treating of the metal.

These USGI 1911's are just fantastic to look at. I really appreciate everybody that posts these pictures and gives information so freely about these wonderful gems. Thanks so much.
You are welcome, and I agree and that's what makes this forum such a pleasure to hang out at. That and of course, all the colorful personalities (I'm trying not to say the 3 letter word that rhymes with head and is a synonym for crimson, [chuckle, chuckle, chuckle], obviously). ROFLMAO. :)
Hey Salt E.,
I would assume that someone with your experience in forums, would know that posting just for posting alone, is neither welcome nor nice.
As I told you already in another post, if you have nothing constructive to say, just stay out.
Why are you trying so hard to be the first one to be banned from this site???? I really can't figure you out.
Allright, o.k., allright. I'll tone it down a little. Geez. I thought you guys have a sense of humor but nevermind. No more. I be on my best behavior. I just get so excited when I hang out with all you guys talking about all these cool guns. No more Red jokes. Got it. o.k., o.k., o.k. :)
Don't just "tone it down a little". Tone it down a whole lot. Stop acting childish, and respect the rules of the forum.

You the boss man, El Commandante. But does this mean I won't make moderator? :)
Now that was funny. What the heck, doesn't hurt to ask.
