I noticed after looking at my spent cases from my RIA 1911a1 that they all have a very noticable cut or indent on the headtamp that i assume was caused by the extractor. I also noticed that on several of the +P cases and 3 out of 50 of the WWB that there is a nick or indent halfway up the case. I plan to reload so first off i wanted to know are these cases not safe due to the nick scratch whatever you wanna call it? And is there an explanation for whats causing this to happen. Sorry for not having any pics of the cases. BTW I haven't had avy problems with the gun i just thought this was peculiar and since this is my first .45 i wanted to know if it was common. Thanks

Case head cut is most likely from a poorly adjusted extractor.

A nick or dent in the body of the case is usually the result of the rear edge of the ejection port hitting the case as the slide moves forward during the feeding cycle, this is usually caused by a poorly adjusted extractor, a shock buffer on the recoil spring guide rod, or a recoil spring that is too heavy for the ammo being used.

A chewed up rim is going to be a problem when it comes to sliding the rim into the shell holder on your press and may hang up during chambering in the pistol.
