I suffer hammer bite but like the looks of the original style hammer with the spur.

Does anyone make an extended beavertail that will accomodate the sprurred hammer.

Kings gunworks used to make one, But I am not sure if they still do.... Another option is toget an STI hammer. They make one that looks like a spur hammer, but is short enough to fit in a beavertail.. I might go this way because I don't perticularly like commander style hammers....

Here is the hammer... http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=12429&title=1911+AUTO+HAMMER

Thanks, somebody also mentioned Pachmyers. I will call. There is nothing on the web site to indicate what I'm looking for.

Perhaps a little late jumping in here, but I also wanted to have an old-style wide spur hammer on my 1911-A1.
I've not seen beavertail grip safeties for the spur hammer and I really wanted to (mostly) keep the one on my 'loaded' Springer.
The photos show how the back tip of the beavertail was bevelled a little bit to accommodate the hammer (with clearance) and still prevent hammer bite.
As I don't 'ride' the thumb safety when shooting, I've never been bitten.
I can re-install the original hammer in a matter of minutes with no problems, if desired.

(Dang! I've got a couple of good pictures and can't figure out how to paste them here).
Top of all screens. In the lower menu bar (at the bottom of the forum navigation box), the second choice from the left is "FAQ" -- in the FAQ area you'll find an article with detailed instructions on how to post pictures.
