I'm currently considering picking up an STI Trojan 5.0 in 40 that my local shop has for $800. I don't know squat about STI's other than it felt really nice in my hand. I own a Kimber that I absolutely love. Anything I should be concerned with the STI? Any other info you guys can give me would be appreciated.

Check out their website (http://www.stiguns.com/) to learn more about STI. They are a good company. If that Trojan is in really good shape, that's a fair price for it. There's a dealer in Sierra Vista, AZ that sells them for $920 new. He's usually got them on www.Gunbroker.com.

How many mags come with it? I understand the Springfield .40 mags are good, and Tripp Research sells a good .40 mag especially for the STI. (http://www.trippresearch.com/)

A good friend has a Trojan 5.0 in 9mm that is great to shoot. I'm going to end up getting one for my wife.

My only dislike is the totally black sights, though the Bomar rear is really nice! My intent with the 9mm I get for my wife is to put a DP fiber optic front on it for her.

It sounds like a good deal if it is in really good shape! If you get it, post pics!

I may be crazy but I think it's brand new.

It's probably one someone bought and either hardly used or was a safe-queen. Sounds like a GREAT deal then!

kgraber,
I was recently inquiring among some local custom builders concerning their prefered source for frames and slides. Among them, the STI slides came extremely highly rated. I've never touched one yet myself and can only relay the opinions of some local professionals, but their opinion was quite high in regards to STI components, so it sounds like you probably have a pretty nice find there.

G'day all. I've had my 9mm for about three months. It's reliable and incredibly accurate. 1" groups at 25m from a rest are possible all day. The trigger is also perfect (for me any way) especially for a 'factory' gun (3.5lbs). when i got it stripped expecting to polish all the usual internal parts, but it was already done. I changed the mag release comes plain and uncheckered, installed a mag funnel (S&A), and the grips no big deal. The gun is fantastic for the price. I've got friends with full house custom guns that don't shoot like this thing.
Good luck, Adam

My trojan 40 is 6 1/2 years old. Its my single stack match gun for the past 6 years. The only thing I added on mine was the ambidextrous safety and hard chrome finish. The magazines I use are Mc Cormick mags. They are flawless.
