Hi all, recent newguy here and I got a question that involves an IAI made in Phillipines. I picked this gun up for less than a song from a friend who was leaving the country and had a gunsmith check it out and install grip bushings. While his opinion that the gun is not worth spending any money on but just to keep as a general shooter and doorstop, it has always worked perfectly for me while giving reasonable accuracy.

Anyway, the sights are somewhat adequate but I was interested seeing what else was available that would fit the dovetails without machining.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a "standard" cut, or are they all different and proprietary?

Good day,

I think IAI is made from Isarael. (Israeli Arms Industry).

Depends on the model in question. Some of the IAI's used a standard .330 rear dovetail, while others came w/ an adjustable sight resembling those found on GoldCup's.

mitchjoemitchjoe, thanks for the reply. Mine is a M6000 model as stamped on the slide. it has a small fixed rear sight in a dovetail with a front sight with two hex screws holding it in its dovetail. I wanted something a little brighter, bigger, and/or adjustable.

I do know that I had it to a 'smith to add grip bushings and he said it wasn't worth the work to fit it with aftermarket sights. I understood this to mean that it would require machining. so you think it's possible that it might be a relatively easy swap? I honestly know very little about the 1911 platform though I have been shooting other handguns for a few years...

again, thanks...

Hmm, the front sight is retained by two hex-screws? I'm afraid I'm going to need a picture; I'm not aware of any 1911 front sights retained in that manner.

mitchjoeOK, I'll work on getting a pic for you but it may take awhile - the gun is at the 'smith right now getting a new link and barrel fit.

thanks for the reply.
