I have a WW1 1911 made by springfield armory, UNITED STATES PROPERTY marked on left side of frame and M1911US ARMY on the rt side of slide along with a beautiful eagle with wings open. It has all "S" marked internals and made in 1914 It is as tight as a new pistol and has no pits or rust. How many of these things are there and about what are they worth? I have shot 2 clips out of it about 6mos ago and its a accurate gun. Any info you can give would be appreciated. Thanks

""Oh, it's not worth that much, I'll take it off your hands"" ... yada yada. :p
Truthfully?? Oil it up and put it in the glass case!.!. Sounds like a keeper.

I would say the bidding would start at a cool $1000, depending upon the condition of the finish and if it is truely all original. How about posting some pictures?

Im not looking to sell it, probably never will but was just wondering what its worth, it has about 80% finish left on it and all original parts except the barrel. I need a barrel BAD! Can anyone help me with that?

I would agree with you, to probably never sell it. I am in the same mode. Maybe my kids will sell them, but I won't care by then. To check out the price range, go to as many auctions sites as you can, view the photos, see what the ending prices are.
Here's a few:

There are always the gun shops and pawn brokers, BUT be weary of those more interested in buying than helping you out.

$600 for a WWI production SA mfg'd barrel in good condition is not out of line.

I have a barrel, it might be what you need, it has an "s" and "p" proof mark on the left lug, no other marks that I can find, the bore looks excellent to me, but I am not a professional judge of bores, bright with lots of rifling. I am hoping your barrel is what I could use. If you're interested in swapping pics and maybe barrels let me know, I believe the barrel my (1917) m1911 Colt needs has an "hp" proof mark on the top of the barrel that shows through the ejection port. Good shooting...T.Q.

my grand father has colt 1911 made in 1917 or 1918. still in original box, not a single pitting or rust on it.
Has long smooth faced trigger, with no finger clearance cut in to frame, U natch rear site with taperd round front sight and have roop on gottom of mag with original flat MSH.
He got it from his father when he signed up for airforce in 1941. I guess he thought he can take it with him(which he could not). it sat in box wrapped in oiled paper for almost 40years. its been many years since i seen it. but there was alot of writing on left side of slide if i remenber right
He turned down $2000 offer few years ago.
Hope he never sell it. Because its gonna be mine someday. And i am to never sell it
