View Full Version : Mil-Spec Three Dot Sights

I have a Mdl 1911-A1 Mil-Spec with the GI sights. I can get the fixed three dot mil-specs in stalled by SA at a reasonable cost. I just have a couple of questions. Are the three dot mil specs higher profile? Are they that much easier to acquire than the regular GI sights?
Thanks in advance;

Yes, they are much higher profile which makes them easier to pick up.
I'm not a 3 dot person, but they do very well, for stock sights.

If you can afford it, you'd like it better if you got night sights.

I have both, and very soon, the model with the night sights will be for sale, in part because of the night sights.
Novak night sights don't add anything I want, because taking a shot in the dark is for fools, and the Novaks take away at least one option.
Fishing lures aren't built to catch fish, they're built to catch fishermen.
Novak night sights are fishing lures for "shooters".

Well, in low light situations where you are being accosted by a criminal, night sights make it where you can line up your sights on the target, so you won't have to take a wild foolish shot. Personally I prefer the ghost ring type. Of course if you can't see your target then you should not fire. Seeing how all situations are not the same in regards to light, I'll take the night sights.

There's a direct contradiction there.
Step one, think it through.
Step two, analyze what you gain and what you loose.
Step three, sell the Novaks.

Personally, I like to have the the front lit up, and leave the rear without them.
Was in an on duty shooting years ago at night. The subject was 12 yards away........was nice to be able to pick up the front sight quickly. Gives you a flash pic to go on. But I don't like anything that draws my eye to the rear sight.
Most of my 1911's have a front night sight, and a regular rear. But to each their own........

Man, I don't know what your talking about so just add me to your ignore list and we'll be fine. I can't stand people on the internet that like to play stupid little games like this.

We're fine now.
Would you like to buy some Novaks?

I just have the standard sights that came with my mil-spec, and they work fine for me. Only time I use them is when I want to really check any variances in shot performance with different ammo. Many years ago I was taught to use a pistol without sights, on the draw so to speak, for the main reason of... if you have to use it in self defense, then you don't have time to acquire your target in the sights. Maybe I am wrong on that theory, but freehanding at 25 yards I can hit the sillohette every time, might not be in the center, but its a definite wound shot, and most of the time a kill shot. Albeit, if I was going to swap sights, I would probably go with a night sight on the front, just as guide as to where the front of the pistol was and regular sights on the rear. As I said before though, if you ever meet someone in a dark alley, and have to use your weapon, will you really have time to sight it in. I sure won't be worrying about the darn sights.

You can have the whole gun. It's a Springfield Loaded model, with the Novak Night Eyes.
I need the money to build a weapon, instead of a gun. :D

Ok, I simply posted my nice opinion about sights and this troll starts in with the bullshit. I was looking for a different place that much of this troll crap is not allowed.
Goodbye. I don't need the aggravation. I've seen too many assholes on good forums ruin them to waste my time. My apologies.
Please, delete account, or, for what it's worth, don't.

I just realized I didn't answer your question.
Yes, I check this board at least a couple times each day.
I'm hoping it takes off, and with guys here like 'Tuner, I'm sure it will.

Wow, perfect examples of what the site should not become. If you can't say something nice then say whatever you want with a little respect.
