Hi, I would like to share my 1911 Loaded turned quasi-TRP project. My pistol started as a parkerized Loaded with Novak night sights. I did the following work myself and I am not a gunsmith:

- Trigger job with Cylinder and Slide 3.5# sear spring
- Cylinder and Slide extractor
- EGW square firing pin stop - slightly radiused
- Wolff firing pin spring
- Ed Brown firing pin
- Wolff 14# recoil spring
- Polished throat, ramp, breech face
- Wolff 23# mainspring
- Smith and Alexander mainspring / mag well combo
- Ed Brown hammer strut
- Alumagrips slim-line grips
- Original style recoil guide rod and plug (Wilson)
- Hand checkered front strap (did it myself! with Marvel fixture)
- Brownell's Gun-Kote on frame
- Tripp CobraMags

It has been 100% reliable and exceptionally accurate. I don't know (or want to know) how much it all cost me, but because I did it all myself I think I came in under what an actual TRP would have cost and I prefer some of the better parts I put in. I probably would have switched those parts anyways (ILS mainspring housing, guide rod, extractor, f/p, f/p stop) so I know I saved some money.

I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for looking.

Damn, I am impressed - especially the checkering.

Hi, for my first post here I'm very curious to know how you did the front strap checkering yourself. And what is a Marvel fixture? I'm not familier with that. I have a SA loaded parkerized also on order. BTW I almost forgot to say it looks awesome.

Great looking gun. I like the fact that it has a simple look, but internally waiting to exert some total punishment on some unsuspecting target.

You did an outstanding job with that pistol. I had a parkerized loaded that I considered doing the same thing to but I ended up taking the easy way out and just selling it and buying a brand new TRP. Good job. I really like the way it turned out for you! :)

The checkering - I saw some pics of someone using a "jig" (not really sure what that is) to make their own checkering. But, I am still not sure how it works. Is it basically a file? And you follow a pattern? How long does it take usually. Except for the starting and ending parts, how hard is it to not screw it up? If I got another 1911 and wanted to do it at some point in time, is it just labor intensive, or does it really take someone who knows what they are doing?

Good looking job. I know you will enjoy the "fruits of your labors". Keep us enformed on how the Gun-Kote holds up. I may do the same to one of mine.
